1. Daily Fuel Moisture

Daily Fuel Moisture #

FLAM › Daily Fuel Moisture calculates the daily moisture content of fine dead fuels from weather data. It uses the moisture model behind the Canadian Fine Fuel Moisture Code (FFMC). The result feeds the ignition probability (P_m), the burned area and the spread steps.

Skip this step if you already have daily fuel moisture as a fraction of dry weight.

Inputs #

Calculate Daily Fuel Moisture window

FieldContent fills from
Start Date, End DatePeriod to calculateConfig dates
TemperatureDaily folder, °CDaily Tmax
PrecipitationDaily folder, mm/dayDaily Prec
HumidityDaily folder, relative humidity in %Daily Hum
Wind SpeedDaily folder, km/hDaily Wsp

The FFMC is designed for noon weather. Daily maximum temperature is the usual stand-in, which is why loads Tmax.

Parameters #

FieldDescription
Output DateDate format in output file names: YYYYMMDD (default) or YYYYDOY. Keep YYYYMMDD, because the other tools expect 8-digit dates.
Base Map (Optional)When set, the tool resamples every input to this grid (by averaging) as it reads it. Use it when the climate data are coarser than your base map or use a different projection. fills it from the configured Base Map.
Output FolderWhere the results go. fills it from Daily Mois.

Output #

One file per day, moist_YYYYMMDD.tif, holding fine-fuel moisture content as a fraction of dry weight (0–2.5; 0.15 means 15 %). NoData is −9999.

Continuing a series. The calculation carries moisture over from one day to the next. If the output folder already contains the file for the day before Start Date, the tool uses it as the starting state. Otherwise it starts from 16.3 % (FFMC 85, the standard start-up value). To extend a series, set Start Date to the day after the last existing file.
